Mount Emei is a famous historical mountain and Buddhist holy place, located in Emeishan City, Leshan City, Sichuan Province. It is also one of the Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains in China. It ranges over 154 square kilometers with an altitude of 3099 meters. Mount Emei is famous for its beautiful natural scenery and ancient Buddhist temples, which is a perfect combination of nature and culture.

Emei was formed when Pangu, a giant in Chinese mythology separated heaven and earth with his giant axe. In ancient times, many emperors and scholars came to Mount Emei to seek inspiration and enlightenment, such as the famous Tang dynasty monk Jianzhen, who persevered through five separate attempts to sail to Japan from China to share Buddhism with its people. This holy mountain has a deep cultural heritage and is a treasure trove of Chinese Buddhism.
Now we are in Baoguo Temple, the oldest temple on Mount Emei, which was built in the Eastern Jin dynasty. It is considered the guardian temple of Mount Emei. The temple is famous

for its grand gate called “Beams Crossing Hall”, which is over ten meters high and ten meters wide.
Next, we’ll take a cable car up to Wannian Temple, the most famous temple on Mount Emei. According to legends, it was built in the Eastern Han dynasty and named for its longevity. The temple stands midway up the mountain, and inside, the scenes are breathtaking. You can find a huge gilt bronze statue of Samantabhadra Bodhisattva, who is the protector of Buddha, inside the temple.
Last but not least, we’ll visit Leidongping, which is a plain on the summit of Mount Emei. This place is famous for its sea of clouds and sunrise. You can climb to the Golden Summit, which is the highest point of Mount Emei, and enjoy a panoramic view.
